Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that Wout Weghorst had a positive debut for the Red Devils.
The 30-year-old joined the 20-time English champions at the end of last week, moving to the club on loan from Burnley for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.
Anthony Martial's absence against Crystal Palace led to Weghorst making his full debut for the club on Wednesday night, and he played 69 minutes of what proved to be a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park.
Ten Hag has praised the Netherlands international for his showing against Palace, insisting that "it is not easy" to make the transition into a new team.
"It is not easy. To come into a team who is in a [good] run and has [developed] a way of how to play over seven or eight months," Ten Hag told reporters during his post-match press conference.
"Then you only have one game to look [at] and I don't think that, [Manchester] City, represents how we play, though it was great to be part of, from the inside and out.
"I thought it was the best choice, as he has a profile of a number nine and I thought he did well.
"He had good link-up play and he made a good run for the first goal with a front-post run by taking two players out. He helped Bruno [Fernandes] be free. Also in [the] pressing, you can see it was a good debut."
Fernandes's first-half goal looked to be securing a 10th straight win in all competitions for Man United, but Michael Olise came up with a last-gasp leveller for the Eagles.
Ten Hag has now called on his players to provide a reaction against Arsenal, as the Red Devils prepare to visit the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
"It's happened, you can't change this any more. I just said in the dressing room: we're looking forward," the Dutchman told Sky Sports News.
"Get energy, look to Arsenal and we will make a proper plan. [The] players have to make sure they are ready for that game because it's a top game and it's fantastic to play such games, so we are looking forward."
Man United missed the chance to move above Manchester City into second spot in the Premier League table on Wednesday night, but the point was enough to see them climb above Newcastle United into third. body check tags ::
