How Manchester United could line up against Everton

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up for Saturday's Premier League clash with Everton at Goodison Park.

Manchester United will be looking to avoid a third straight defeat in all competitions when they make the trip over to Merseyside to face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Red Devils fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal last weekend before losing 2-1 at Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League just three days later.

The big matches continue to come thick and fast, though, with the visit to high-flying Everton next up as United look to improve on their joint-worst start to a season since 1986-87.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could set his side up for the contest.

Out: Phil Jones (knee), Eric Bailly (muscle)
Doubtful: Jesse Lingard (unspecified), Victor Lindelof (back), Alex Telles (coronavirus)

Solskjaer has Anthony Martial back available following his three-match domestic ban, with the goalscorer from midweek expected to lead the line ahead of Edinson Cavani once again.

Indeed, despite the defeat, Man United named three quarters of their first-choice front four in Istanbul, with Mason Greenwood the only one to miss out - he is likely to replace Juan Mata in the XI for this one.

Marcus Rashford has scored three and created three more in his last four Premier League away games, while Bruno Fernandes has scored eight and set up four more in just nine such outings since joining the club.

Remarkably, the Portuguese playmaker has only failed to either score or assist in one of those nine away games, and even if he blanks this weekend then he will have still set a record for most goal involvements in a player's first 10 Premier League away appearances.

United have failed to score in their last two Premier League games, though, which only adds to their problems given the continued question marks over their defensive solidity.

Victor Lindelof should be fit to return from a minor back injury in this match, although the fact that Solskjaer preferred to bring on Scott McTominay for Axel Tuanzebe at half time in midweek suggests that the Swede was not quite fully ready for that match.

Otherwise it could be an unchanged back four, with Luke Shaw likely to continue on the left despite Alex Telles being available once again after recovering from coronavirus.

David de Gea should return in goal after being rested in midweek, while Paul Pogba's position on the bench instead of in the starting XI is now the norm rather than a notable talking point - he is once again set to miss out to Fred and McTominay here.

Jesse Lingard could be back available, but is unlikely to start regardless.
