How Manchester United could line up against West Bromwich Albion

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up for Saturday's Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.

Manchester United welcome West Bromwich Albion to Old Trafford on Saturday looking to end a dreadful run of form at home.

The Red Devils are winless in six league outings on home territory and have picked up just one point from four games there this season, conceding a league-high 10 goals in the process.

Man United will nevertheless be favourites against a Baggies side winless home or away since earning promotion back to the Premier League - an eight-game run which has left them in the relegation zone.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could line his side up for Saturday's contest.

Out: Luke Shaw (hamstring), Phil Jones (knee), Jesse Lingard (unspecified)
Doubtful: Marcus Rashford (shoulder), Anthony Martial (back), Harry Maguire (foot), Victor Lindelof (back), Mason Greenwood (illness), Eric Bailly (muscle)

Man United have a host of players either still carrying injuries from before the international break or who have returned from the break with niggles, although their lengthy list of doubts is not quite as bad as it would first appear.

All seven of their doubtful players are expected to either be in contention this weekend or soon after, sparing Solskjaer from having an injury crisis on his hands at both ends of the pitch simultaneously.

Marcus Rashford sustained a shoulder injury against Everton in United's final game before the break and subsequently pulled out of the England squad, but he was back in training on Friday and should be fit to feature this weekend.

A question mark also hangs over the head of Anthony Martial, who picked up a back injury while on duty with France, going on to train away from his international teammates and being named as an unused sub in their final match of the break.

Edinson Cavani would ordinarily provide capable back-up, particularly after opening his Man United account against Everton, but he was absent from training on Thursday after a long-haul flight back from Uruguay.

Harry Maguire also took no part in Thursday's session after playing the full 90 minutes of England's win over Iceland on Wednesday, but he was able to feature in training on Friday despite concerns over a bruised foot.

Fears over a defensive shortage have been eased by Victor Lindelof's participation in training despite playing through a back injury while away with Sweden, while Alex Telles was also present following his Brazil exploits.

The left-back suffered another coronavirus scare during the break, but he has now tested negative and is in line to make his Premier League debut with Luke Shaw sidelined for at least a month due to a hamstring injury.

Eric Bailly and Jesse Lingard are still doubts, though, while there will be plenty of focus on whether Solskjaer selects Mason Greenwood following recent speculation over the reasons behind his absences of late.

The United boss suggested that the youngster may benefit from taking a "step back", suggesting that he will not start this match.

Paul Pogba will also be hopeful of a start after much was made of his Man United situation while he was away with France, but Fred and Scott McTominay were very much Solskjaer's first choice midfield duo prior to the break.

One player who is almost certain to start is Bruno Fernandes - one of only two players, alongside Mohamed Salah, to have had both 20 or more shots and created 20 or more chances in the Premier League this season.
