Manchester United rounded off their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia by drawing 2-2 with fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in Perth on Saturday.

The Red Devils overcame Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace in their opening three friendlies of the summer but were forced to share the spoils with Villa following a late header from Calum Chambers.

There were concerns that the match would not be able to go ahead due to heavy rain, which impacted the playing surface, but the fixture kicked off as planned.

Donny van de Beek and Luke Shaw came in for Man United, with Scott McTominay and Tyrell Malacia dropping out, while a familiar Villa XI included the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings.

Harry Maguire came close to sending Man United ahead in the sixth minute when he met a corner from Shaw, but Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was on hand to make a smart save.

Villa had a chance of their own minutes later when Matty Cash worked some space outside the box before unleashing a strike, but his effort just missed the far post, before Martinez had to get down well to prevent Jadon Sancho from opening the scoring down the other end.

The Red Devils did make the breakthrough in the 25th minute, though, when an excellent team move involving Diogo Dalot, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford ended with the impressive Sancho converting a Shaw cross.

Ten Hag's side came close on two occasions in the next 15 minutes, with Sancho just losing control inside the Villa box at the vital moment following another impressive move, before Rashford fired a low strike wide of Martinez's post.

Man United had their second in the 42nd minute, though, when Sancho's cross from the left was dispatched by Rashford, with the ball taking a big deflection off Villa defender Cash.

Villa had the first chance of the second period, with Watkins finding himself in a central position just outside the Man United box, but the striker's effort curled wide of the post.

Gerrard's team did register in the 50th minute, though, when substitute Leon Bailey worked some space in a wide area before impressively finding across David de Gea and into the back of the net.

The lively Bailey then brought a smart save from De Gea four minutes later, before Ezri Konsa almost turned a low Sancho cross into the back of his own net down the other end.

Maguire then made a brilliant block just past the hour to prevent Bailey from levelling the scores, with the centre-back throwing himself at the ball after De Gea had been rounded.

Ten Hag made wholesale changes in the 67th minute, including James Garner for his first appearance of the tour, while Raphael Varane was also introduced after his recent fitness issue.

Opportunities were few and far between in the latter stages, with the first-half goals looking enough for Man United to continue their 100% record on tour, but Chambers headed a late equaliser for Villa to make it 2-2 in Perth.

Ten Hag's side will play their final two friendlies of the summer against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano next weekend, while Villa are next in action against Rennes on July 30. body check tags ::
