Manchester United have won the Community Shield with a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at Wembley Stadium.
The result has seen manager David Moyes pick up his first piece of silverware since taking charge of the club at the start of the summer.
It took United just six minutes to open the scoring as Robin van Persie headed in powerfully from Patrice Evra's cross.
Despite falling behind, Wigan looked lively during the opening half and continued to cause their opponents problems at the back.
However, the Premier League champions extended their advantage with an hour played thanks to Van Persie's deflected strike.
United almost scored a third 10 minutes later, but Antonio Valencia saw his effort put out for a corner.
