Report: FA Cup win will not save Louis van Gaal's job at Manchester United

Manchester United will reportedly sack Louis van Gaal and replace him with Jose Mourinho even if he wins the FA Cup in May.

Manchester United will reportedly sack manager Louis van Gaal at the end of the season, even if he guides them to FA Cup glory in May.

The Dutchman has been under scrutiny all season due to the team's inconsistency on the pitch and failure to launch a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

United limped out of the Champions League at the group stage, and they are currently four points off the top four with six games left to play.

There is some hope of silverware, though, as the team booked themselves a spot in the FA Cup semi-finals following a 2-1 win over West Ham United in their quarter-final replay.

Despite this, The Mirror reports that club bosses have decided to axe Van Gaal at the end of the season, paving the way for ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to take over at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese coach has been linked with the post since his sacking from Stamford Bridge in December, and his chances of getting the United job have increased as former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and club legend Sir Bobby Charlton are now more accepting of the need for change, according to the newspaper.

It has also been reported that Van Gaal, who has one year remaining on his contract, is aware that he will be let go in the summer.
