Michael Carrick has said that he is "hopeful" that Jose Mourinho will want to retain his services at Manchester United for next season.
As it stands, the experienced midfielder is due to become a free agent when his contract at Old Trafford expires next month.
However, the 34-year-old has hinted that he is keen to work under the incoming Mourinho, who was appointed United's new boss on Friday.
"I'm not sure exactly the situation of who he is bringing in or anything like that just yet, we will have to wait and see on that one," he told Sky Sports News.
"For me, I'm hopeful, no news as of yet but we'll have to wait and see what happens next week."
Recent speculation claimed that Mourinho had already sanctioned a new deal for the ex-Tottenham Hotspur player.
