Diogo Dalot has said that discussions surrounding a potential new contract at Manchester United can wait, with the defender just focusing on his own form.

The 23-year-old has been impressive for the Red Devils during the 2022-23 campaign, contributing one goal and two assists in 16 appearances in all competitions.

Dalot has started all 16 of his side's matches this term, and he netted his first goal of the campaign in Thursday's 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.

The former Porto youngster is also widely expected to be named in the Portugal squad for the upcoming World Cup, where he will be hoping to secure a starting role.

Despite developing into a key player for Man United, there is currently speculation surrounding his future, as his current contract with the 20-time English champions is due to expire next June.

The Red Devils do have the option of activating a further 12 months on the agreement, while there has been talk of a potential new long-term deal in Manchester.

However, Dalot's future is unclear, and both Barcelona and Real Madrid are believed to be interested in signing the Portuguese next year.

The right-back has said that he is "happy" at Old Trafford and 'loves playing for the club' but does not see the need to discuss a new deal at this moment in time.

"I mean, I just think this is not worth thinking about too much at this time. We are in the process of where we think we have to improve our game as a team and focus on the club," Dalot told Sky Sports News.

"Individuals will have to come [secondary] at this time and there is also a World Cup coming. I don't think that it is the time to think about this [new contract].

"I'm just happy that I'm helping this club. I love to play for this club, and I think that I show that every single time I step onto Old Trafford and every time I wear this badge. This is the most important for me [right now]."

Dalot initially found it difficult to secure regular minutes for Man United, and the presence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Old Trafford led to him spending the 2020-21 campaign on loan at AC Milan.

The former Porto youngster became Man United's first-choice right-back when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as head coach last November, though, and he has been a vital player for Ten Hag this term.

Dalot has now made 81 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions and will be looking to make his 82nd in Sunday's Premier League clash with West Ham United at Old Trafford. body check tags ::
