Frenkie de Jong has reportedly been left 'disgusted' by how Barcelona have conducted themselves with regards to his future.

The midfielder has been a regular in the starting lineup since his switch to Camp Nou in 2019, making a total of 140 appearances in all competitions.

The 26-year-old is also tied to the Catalan giants until 2026, a factor which could theoretically keep him at at the club for a number of years.

However, despite suggestions from president Joan Laporta that the Netherlands international is not for sale, speculation persists regarding an exit from the La Liga club.

Barcelona's financial position means that they will realistically have to generate significant funds through player sales in order to fulfil Xavi's transfer plans for the summer.

A recent report has claimed that the sale of De Jong will now be prioritised with club officials wanting to secure the big-money signing of Leeds United winger Raphinha.

According to reports in Spain, Xavi phoned De Jong on Monday evening to inform him of the situation.

While De Jong is said to be understanding of Barcelona's current financial predicament, the player allegedly feels left out when it comes to discussions regarding the situation.

There have been conflicting reports as to whether De Jong would be open to leaving Barcelona during the current transfer window, particularly to a club in United who will not play Champions League football in 2022-23.

In recent days, officials from United have been pictured in Barcelona, a clear sign that negotiations between the relevant parties remain active.

Following on from those discussions, Barcelona have allegedly been informed by their United counterparts that they want a deal concluding by Friday.

While that is something which may be accepted by Barcelona, it is unclear whether De Jong will be prepared to accept such demands as he considers his status at Barcelona and potential role at United.

Previously, it has been claimed that the situation is further complicated by De Jong being owed a significant amount of deferred wages. body check tags ::
