Dean Henderson is reportedly unlikely to travel to the United States for Manchester United's pre-season tour, with the goalkeeper pushing to leave Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

The England international spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, although he was restricted to 20 appearances in all competitions due to a thigh problem which he suffered in January.

Henderson is back at Man United's Carrington training complex recovering from the injury, and he will not be available for the team's first pre-season friendly of the summer against Leeds United on July 12.

The Red Devils will then take on Lyon on July 19 before heading to the United States for pre-season matches against Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Erik ten Hag's side will round off their preparations for the 2023-24 campaign with matches against Lens and Athletic Bilbao on August 5 and August 6 respectively.

Henderson is one of only two senior goalkeepers at Man United, with Tom Heaton recently extending his contract for a further 12 months.

David de Gea's deal expired at the end of June, meanwhile, with the Spaniard now a free agent.

Man United are said to be close to securing the signature of Andre Onana from Inter Milan, with the Cameroonian set to become the club's new number one goalkeeper, and Henderson is allegedly not prepared to accept being a number two for the Red Devils once again.

According to The Mirror, Henderson is not expected to travel on Man United's pre-season tour, as he attempts to secure a permanent move to Forest as soon as possible.

The report claims that Steve Cooper's side, who survived relegation from the Premier League, could pay in the region of £30m to sign the stopper on a long-term deal.

The 26-year-old came through the youth system at Old Trafford before making his first-team debut in 2015, and he has featured on 29 occasions for the club in all competitions.

Henderson was Man United's number one for a spell of the 2020-21 campaign, making 26 appearances in all competitions, but De Gea regained the gloves for the 2021-22 season and again spent last term as the club's number one under Ten Hag.

There is still a chance that De Gea could re-sign for the Red Devils, although he would have to accept being a number two on a reduced salary, which is thought to be unlikely at this stage of his career. body check tags ::
