Diogo Dalot is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Manchester United over a new long-term deal.

The 24-year-old's existing contract with the 20-time English champions is due to expire next summer, but the Red Devils have recently been in discussions with him over an extension.

Dalot has been a regular in Erik ten Hag's first season as Man United boss, featuring on 41 occasions in all competitions, scoring twice and providing three assists in the process.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has said that negotiations are now "progressing to crucial stages", with an agreement over a new long-term deal at Old Trafford close to being finalised.

"The defender is now back in advanced talks to extend his contract at Manchester United. The negotiation is going very well, from what I understand, and it is progressing to crucial stages," Romano said on his YouTube channel.

"This is something that Manchester United had already started to do after the World Cup. Now, the conversation is going very well.

"The idea of Manchester United is to continue with Diogo Dalot. This is their priority. We also know they have to clarify the situation of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was on the market in January then did very well in the second part of the season.

"But for Dalot, nothing has changed. The idea is to continue with Manchester United, and negotiations are ongoing over a contract extension."

Dalot was in impressive form for Man United in the first half of the season, but he was absent for a spell earlier this year due to a hamstring injury that he picked up while representing Portugal at the 2022 World Cup.

Wan-Bissaka's form, meanwhile, has restricted Dalot's starts, with the former Porto youngster not featuring in the Premier League since the loss at West Ham United on May 7.

A recent report claimed that Wan-Bissaka is now set to remain at Old Trafford despite being heavily linked with an exit earlier this year, as he has been in strong form in the second half of the campaign.

Man United are also thought to be looking to sign another right-back, with Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong said to be admired by Ten Hag, but it would be difficult for the Dutchman to fit all three players into his plans next season.

Dalot made the move to Old Trafford from Porto in July 2018, and he has now represented the 20-time English champions on 106 occasions, scoring three goals and registering six assists.

A successful loan spell at AC Milan during the 2020-21 campaign led to Dalot becoming a first-team regular at Old Trafford, but he could find himself on the bench for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3 due to Wan-Bissaka's performance level. body check tags ::
