Inter Milan are reportedly ready to do battle with Serie A rivals Roma for the signature of Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
The Englishman impressed in the heart of the Roma defence during his loan spell in Italy, and Smalling amassed three goals and two assists from 37 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit.
Roma manager Paulo Fonseca is supposedly still looking to strike a permanent deal for the England international, but I Giallorossi's efforts have been hampered following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
According to Sportmediaset, Inter boss Antonio Conte is also eyeing up a swoop for the experienced defender, with the 2019-20 Serie A runners-up looking to end Juventus's dominance of the Italian football scene next season.
Smalling would join a trio of ex-United players at San Siro should he make the switch to Inter, with Ashley Young, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez all among the ranks at Conte's side.
United will reportedly allow Smalling to leave for a fee of £23m, with his current deal at Old Trafford set to expire in 2022.
