Chris Smalling has completed his permanent switch to Roma from Manchester United with just one minute of the Italian transfer window remaining.
The 30-year-old spent last season on loan with the Serie A outfit, making 37 appearances across all competitions and scoring three goals.
Roma were suitably impressed to want to make the deal permanent, but the two clubs remained apart in their valuation of the defender until a breakthrough on deadline day.
United will receive £13.6m up front for the England international, with the potential of that fee rising to £18.1m with add-ons.
Smalling leaves after 10 years as a United player, having been signed from Fulham by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2010.
Roma completed the deal with just one minute to spare of the Italian transfer window, which shut at 7pm BST. body check tags ::
