Manchester United are reportedly considering signing a new goalkeeper to compete with Andre Onana for the 2024-25 season.
The Cameroon international immediately took on the number one role upon his arrival from Inter Milan, with whom he reached the 2022-23 Champions League final.
Onana stepped into David de Gea's shoes after the Spaniard ended his 12-year association with the Red Devils, but he was subjected to scathing criticism for early mistakes in the first half of the season.
Onana has largely managed to cut out his errors since, though, recording a respectable 12 clean sheets from 46 matches across all competitions, including eight shut-outs from 34 Premier League matches.
However, the 28-year-old was at fault for another two dropped points at the weekend, conceding a late penalty against Burnley with a nonsensical challenge on Clarets striker Zeki Amdouni.
Current number two set for exit?
Aaron Wan-Bissaka seemingly had the situation under control and headed the ball clear, but Onana came flying out of his goal and clattered into Amdouni, who dusted himself down and converted from 12 yards.
Man United's draw with Vincent Kompany's side guarantees that they will not be playing Champions League football next year, and according to Fichajes, the Red Devils could be on the lookout for another shot-stopper this summer.
As well as bringing Onana to the club, Man United also captured Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce, but the Turkey international has only made one competitive appearance for Ten Hag's side so far.
Onana was surprisingly given the nod in the EFL Cup and FA Cup before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations, where Bayindir earned his belated senior debut in a 4-2 win over Newport County in the latter competition.
Bayindir's contract at Old Trafford runs until 2027 with the option of a further 12 months, but he is already being tipped to leave, while Tom Heaton's contract expires at the end of the campaign too.
Man United to move for Champions League-scoring goalkeeper?
In terms of goalkeepers who could arrive in Manchester this summer, the report claims that Lazio's Ivan Provedel is on the Red Devils' radar, and the club could even make an approach for his services this summer.
The 30-year-old made headlines on the opening matchday of this season's Champions League, heading home a dramatic late equaliser in Lazio's 1-1 group-stage draw with Atletico Madrid.
Provedel has also accrued 13 clean sheets from 38 matches in all competitions this season, although he has missed his side's last six Serie A matches with an ankle problem, but his issue should not hamper his chances of a Euro 2024 call-up.
However, Lazio are under no pressure to part ways with the former Empoli and Spezia man, who is under contract with the Biancocelesti for another three seasons. body check tags ::
