Manchester United are reportedly open to the possibility of signing Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller during the January transfer window.
At one stage earlier this season, Erik ten Hag was believed to be under pressure at Old Trafford, partly down to the club's lack of goals.
However, United have now collected 15 points from their last six games in the Premier League, a 3-0 victory at Everton on Sunday moving the club to within two points of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
As a result, Ten Hag is in a position where he can focus on the club's January business, even if the level of it is in doubt courtesy of the club's position with FFP.
There are a number of areas that the Dutchman could look at strengthening, including central midfield and on either flank, while central defence remains a cause for concern despite the clean sheet at Goodison Park.
Nevertheless, a new attacker in some form appears to be a likely acquisition, with United having been linked with Antoine Griezmann before the versatile France international indicated that he had no interest in a switch to the Theatre of Dreams.
United and Ten Hag have plenty of time to scour the market ahead of the turn of the year, yet it appears that one player is already on their shortlist.
According to BILD, United may look to take advantage of Muller's situation at the Allianz Arena.
Although he has a status as a club legend at Bayern, Muller's game time under Thomas Tuchel has been somewhat restricted, not helped by the form of Harry Kane.
The 34-year-old has made just four starts and nine substitute outings in the Bundesliga and Champions League during 2023-24, contributing one goal and five assists.
Muller also possesses a contract until only the end of the campaign, theoretically putting Bayern in a position where they may be ready to cash in on his signature.
Ten Hag is said to be ready to make his move if the situation involving Muller is prolonged into the new year, with his experience having the potential to be an asset to the club.
Since initially breaking into the senior ranks during 2008-09, Muller has contributed an astonishing 237 goals and 261 assists from 680 appearances in a Bayern shirt.
