Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly keen to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba in January.
With just over six months remaining on his contract, Alaba is attracting widespread interest as clubs eye a cut-price move for the Austria international.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with an approach for the versatile 28-year-old with Frank Lampard continuing to search for alternatives at the back.
However, according to AS, United and City have both instigated discussions with Alaba's agent Pini Zahavi.
Although Bayern may reject any offers at the midway point of the campaign, foreign clubs are free to hold formal talks with Alaba from January.
The 2020 Champions League winners are continuing with their efforts to tempt Alaba into penning fresh terms at the Allianz Arena.
