Manchester United are reportedly prepared to make Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane the most expensive British player of all time.
The Red Devils strengthened their forward line in January with the signing of Wout Weghorst on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Weghorst was always viewed as a short-term fix for Man United, and the Dutchman is widely expected to return to Burnley in the summer.
Man United are looking to make a marquee signing in the final third, which has led to links with the likes of Kane and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
A recent report indicated that the Red Devils are prioritising a move for Kane over Osimhen, and have subsequently made the Tottenham man their number one target.
Jack Grealish is currently the most expensive British player in history after joining Manchester City in a £100m deal in 2021.
However, according to The Mirror, Man United are prepared to break Grealish's record transfer to secure Kane's services.
Tottenham's all-time record scorer has registered 270 goals and 63 assists across 424 appearances for the North London club.
However, a major trophy has alluded the 29-year-old, who is guaranteed to end another campaign without any silverware, after Tottenham were knocked out of the Champions League by AC Milan in midweek.
Kane has less than 18 months left on his current contract and is planning to discuss his future with the Tottenham hierarchy at the end of the season.
If the England international decides against signing a new deal, then Spurs may have to consider a sale or risk losing him on a free transfer in 2024.
Should Tottenham entertain transfer offers in the summer, Man United could face competition from Bayern Munich.
The German champions are still seeking a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who completed a move to Barcelona last summer.
Following their midweek Champions League exit, Tottenham returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon, claiming a 3-1 victory against Nottingham Forest thanks to a Kane brace and a Son Heung-min strike.
Kane has now scored 22 goals across all competitions this term, while he has also chipped in with four assists in 38 appearances. body check tags ::
