Manchester United could reportedly move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone during this summer's transfer window.
The Red Devils are expected to prioritise the addition of a new centre-forward in the upcoming market, but the club are also said to be determined to sign a central midfielder.
Adrien Rabiot, who is out of contract at Juventus next month, is again being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, as was the case during last summer's transfer window.
However, according to RMC Sport, Kone has also emerged as a target for the 20-time English champions.
The 22-year-old started his professional career with Toulouse, representing the French outfit on 59 occasions in all competitions before moving to Monchengladbach in 2021.
The Frenchman has been a key player for his German club this season, making 30 appearances in all competitions, contributing one goal and one assist in the process.
Kone has another two years left to run on his current contract, with the option of a further 12 months, but there have been suggestions that he could be available in a cut-price deal this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest in the central midfielder, who has been capped at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level by France.
Man United have been linked with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice ahead of the summer window, although the former is set to join Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund, while the latter is likely to cost in the region of £100m from West Ham United.
Christian Eriksen and Casemiro have both been vital players for the Red Devils this season following their arrivals last summer, but Scott McTominay could move on in the upcoming market.
Fred has also found it difficult to impress in the second half of the campaign, which has allegedly led to head coach Erik ten Hag asking the club to move for a new midfielder this summer.
The size of the club's transfer budget for the upcoming window remains unclear, though, due to the uncertainty surrounding the ownership of the club.
The Glazers remain in talks over a sale, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani seemingly going head-to-head for the club in a deal that could be worth in excess of £5bn.
