Fenerbahce have reportedly set their sights on signing Mason Greenwood, but the Manchester United striker has concerns about the prospect of playing under Jose Mourinho.
The 22-year-old recently completed a loan spell at Getafe in La Liga, and now the Red Devils must make a new decision regarding his future at Old Trafford.
Since his arrest in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault, Greenwood has not featured for United.
However, all charges against him were dropped last February and United had initially contemplated reintegrating him into Erik ten Hag's squad, but opted against it due to fears of backlash over his return.
United are now believed to be willing to entertain offers for Greenwood this summer, with interest already coming in from several clubs across Europe.
Greenwood reluctant about Mourinho reunion
According to The Sun, Turkish giants Fenerbahce is one of the teams that are keen on signing the 22-year-old ahead of next season.
However, the report also claims that Greenwood is hesitant about the prospect of working with Mourinho, despite having impressed the former Man United manager during training sessions in his academy days.
The Portuguese coach was in charge at Old Trafford when Greenwood began gaining attention as a talent within the senior team. Mourinho even included him in the squad for a pre-season tour to the USA in 2018.
However, Greenwood never featured at senior level under Mourinho, as the Portuguese manager departed Manchester before the player broke into the first-team setup.
He made his debut for the Red Devils under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League round of 16 tie.
More than Mourinho, a potential obstacle to the transfer could be the England international's reluctance to move to the Super Lig at the age of 22, especially considering the interest he has received from clubs in the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A.
European giants chasing Greenwood signature
Juventus are believed to be among the frontrunners to sign Greenwood this summer and reports in recent days have suggested that the player has verbally agreed to the move.
Getafe were keen to make his loan deal a permanent one, but are unable to meet the asking price for him and are also likely to struggle to meet his wage demands.
The 22-year-old made 33 appearances for Geta Azulones in the 2023-24 La Liga season and contributed to 14 goals, including scoring eight himself while assisting six.
Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli have also been linked with a move for the attacker since the completion of his loan.
Greenwood is currently on a £75,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford, which is set to expire in 2025, though the club does have an option to extend the deal by another 12 months.
Being an academy graduate, United will not want to allow the forward to leave on a free transfer, as a sale for him would represent pure profit to the club's bottom line.
During his time at Old Trafford, Greenwood featured in 129 games across all competitions and scored 35 goals while providing 12 assists.
