Manchester United could reportedly only have £65m to spend on a new striker during this summer's transfer window unless their budget is further boosted by sales.

The Red Devils are on the verge of announcing their first signing of the summer, with English attacker Mason Mount set to arrive at Old Trafford in a £60m deal from Chelsea.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club could therefore only have £65m to spend on a new centre-forward, which is unlikely to be enough to sign any of their leading targets.

The report claims that their budget could be boosted by sales, although it remains to be seen how many first-team players will depart in the current market.

There is still huge uncertainty when it comes to the exact size of Man United's budget, as the situation could potentially change if there is a takeover in the near future.

Harry Kane is believed to have been identified as the club's leading centre-forward target this summer, but it appears unlikely that the England captain will be allowed to leave Tottenham Hotspur for a domestic rival.

Bayern Munich have recently been heavily linked with Kane, allegedly lodging two separate bids, but it is still thought that the striker is not looking to leave the Premier League.

Despite having just 12 months left to run on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, £65m would not be close to being enough to sign him this summer.

The same can also be said for Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who is another high-profile forward to be linked with the 20-time English champions during the summer market.

The Nigeria international is believed to be valued by his club in excess of £130m, so it is also difficult to see him moving teams this summer unless Napoli drastically reduce their asking price.

Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani and Benfica's Goncalo Ramos have also been linked with moves to Old Trafford, but like Kane and Osimhen, they would not arrive for under £65m.

Atalanta BC's Rasmus Hojlund had seemingly emerged as a low-cost option for the club this summer, but a recent report claimed that he is valued by his Italian club at £86m.

Man United are also currently looking to bring in a new goalkeeper, with David de Gea's contract at Old Trafford now expired.

Discussions with De Gea over a potential new deal will continue, but Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that the Red Devils are interested in signing the Italian club's stopper Andre Onana. body check tags ::
