Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that Manchester United are interested in signing goalkeeper Andre Onana during this summer's transfer window.

David de Gea's contract at Old Trafford has now expired, making the Spaniard a free agent, although the Red Devils will continue to hold talks with him over a potential new deal.

Onana has allegedly been identified by Man United head coach Erik ten Hag as his leading goalkeeping target this summer, with the Cameroonian previously playing under the Dutchman at Ajax.

The 27-year-old made the move to San Siro from Ajax last July, and he impressed for Inter during the 2022-23 campaign, helping them to reach the Champions League final, in addition to lifting the Italian Super Cup and Coppa Italia title.

Onana featured on 41 occasions for his Italian side during the recent season, keeping 19 clean sheets in the process.

A recent report claimed that Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio was in England at the start of last week to meet with Man United to discuss a possible deal for the stopper.

Marotta has now revealed that there is interest from the Red Devils, and Inter are waiting to see whether an official offer is submitted by the club.

"Manchester United have expressed an interest (in Onana) which may or may not lead to an offer in the next few days. Once that happens, both Inter and the player will carefully assess it," Marotta told reporters.

Journalist Alfredo Pedulla has claimed that Man United are prepared to pay around £38.5m plus bonuses for the stopper, but Inter are looking for a base fee of £43m plus add-ons.

Onana won three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups during his time at Ajax, while he lifted two trophies for Inter during a successful 2022-23 campaign.

Man United have also been linked with Everton's Jordan Pickford and Brentford's David Raya, but Onana has allegedly emerged as their leading target between the sticks.

As it stands, Tom Heaton and Dean Henderson are the only two senior goalkeepers at Old Trafford, but the latter is expected to move to Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis.

De Gea is unlikely to be re-signed if Onana arrives, with the Spaniard not expected to agree to be a number two at Old Trafford at this stage of his career.

Man United are also close to securing the signature of Mason Mount, with the Chelsea attacker set to undergo a medical with Ten Hag's side on Monday. body check tags ::
