Manchester United have reportedly offered a contract to Danish attacker Christian Eriksen.

The 30-year-old's existing deal at Brentford is due to expire at the end of June, and it is believed that he has made the decision to leave Thomas Frank's side on a free transfer.

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be keen to bring the playmaker back to the club, while a number of other leading European sides are said to be keeping a close eye on developments.

New Man United boss Erik ten Hag is also allegedly a huge admirer of Eriksen, and according to The Athletic, the 20-time English champions have now placed a contract offer on the table.

The Denmark international recently said that he has "different offers and options", and he would not turn down a team if they were not in the Champions League, handing the Red Devils a boost, as they will play in the Europa League during the 2022-23 campaign.

Eriksen told Viaplay: "I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision. I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn't essential for me."

Having had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator device fitted after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, Eriksen left former club Inter Milan, moving to Brentford on a free transfer in January.

The attacker impressed in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign, scoring once and providing four assists in 11 Premier League appearances for the Bees.

The Dane previously played in the Premier League for Tottenham between 2013 and 2020, making over 300 appearances for the North London club before leaving for Italy.

A recent report claimed that Ten Hag views Eriksen as 'the perfect signing to launch his revolution' at Old Trafford.

Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard have all left Man United on free transfers this summer, leaving the club needing to sign reinforcements in midfield and attack.

Brentford had reportedly still been hopeful of keeping Eriksen despite naming the attacker on their released list at the weekend, but he is now set to move on after a short stay at the club.

Man United are also in discussions with Barcelona over a deal for Frenkie de Jong, but it is understood that the two clubs are still some way apart when it comes to their valuations of the midfielder.

The 20-time English champions will officially begin pre-season training later this month before taking on rivals Liverpool in their first friendly of the summer on July 12.

Ten Hag's side will also face Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano during pre-season before opening their 2022-23 Premier League campaign at the start of August. body check tags ::
