Manchester United have allegedly turned down an offer from Galatasaray for midfielder Fred.

The Brazil international has proven to be a valuable member of the first-team squad ever since making a £52m switch from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.

As many as 14 goals and 19 assists have come from 213 appearances in all competitions, with almost 100 starts being made in the Premier League.

However, the 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford since the arrival of Casemiro, who is now regarded as an automatic pick in the centre of the pitch.

With United in the market for a fresh face to partner the former Real Madrid star, the future of Fred has become a hot topic for debate, particularly when he has just one year left on his contract.

Soon after the end of the season, Fred indicated that he could be ready to take on a fresh challenge, a consequence of seeing his importance to United drop over the past 12 months.

That has led to interest from both the Premier League and abroad, with Galatasaray having been recently credited as admirers at a time when they are eager to add some star quality to their midfield.

Nevertheless, according to 90min, the Turkish giants have failed with their first attempt to strike a deal with United.

The report claims that United are insisting on recouping in the region of £20m for Fred, a valuation that is allegedly not shared by officials at the Super Lig champions.

As it stands, it is unclear whether Galatasaray will return with a fresh approach, but they are highly unlikely to pay that amount of money for a player of Fred's age.

Fulham have also been heavily linked with a move for Fred yet they, too, are said to share a similar opinion to Galatasaray regarding's Fred asking price.

Clubs from Saudi Arabia are reportedly monitoring the situation, although there is no indication that Fred would contemplate a switch to the Middle East at this stage of their career.

While United could theoretically keep Fred until the end of his contract, the Red Devils would benefit from generating a fee due to their current issues with FFP.

Should the transfer of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana go through as expected, United would have paid in excess of £100m on two players, the other being Mason Mount. body check tags ::
