Real Madrid have reportedly ended their interest in Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, instead lining up a move for Ajax's Donny van de Beek.
Zinedine Zidane had been keen to bring the 26-year-old to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, but the Red Devils were reluctant to enter negotiations and would likely have sought a significant mark-up on the £89m they paid for the former Juventus star three years ago.
Pogba was not part of the United team that travelled to Cardiff at the weekend to face AC Milan but is now expected to be involved in the club's opening Premier League game against Chelsea.
Marca report that Madrid have now turned their attention to Van de Beek, with a deal for the 22-year-old likely to be completed this week.
The report states that Los Blancos are hoping to conclude a deal in the region of €50m (£45.9m) to make the midfielder their sixth summer signing.
The Dutch international, who made more than 50 appearances for Erik ten Hag's side last season, scored one and created another in Ajax's opening Eredivisie game away to Vitesse on Saturday.
