Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has informed the Red Devils that he wishes to leave this summer, according to a report.

With Christian Eriksen and Casemiro forming Erik ten Hag's first-choice midfield pairing this term, opportunities for starts have been few and far between for McTominay.

Casemiro's suspension and Eriksen's ankle injury have opened the door for the Scotland international to feature more regularly, but Fred and Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer are also competing for minutes in the engine room.

McTominay has only featured from the first whistle nine times in the current Premier League season, and he has also played just 132 minutes during the Red Devils' run to the Europa League quarter-finals.

The 26-year-old is contracted to the Old Trafford outfit for another two years with the option of a third, but with Man United being tipped to bolster their engine room further this summer, McTominay is being heavily linked with an exit.

According to Football Insider, McTominay has now let the club know that he wants out this summer if he is unable to force his way back up the pecking order.

The Scotsman would allegedly feel hugely threatened by the arrival of another midfielder this summer, and regular playing time is his priority at this point in his career.

The Red Devils have not closed the door on signing Sabitzer permanently at the end of his loan spell, while they are also believed to be keeping an eye on Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham and Southampton's James Ward-Prowse.

Ten Hag supposedly does not want to see McTominay leave during the summer window, but with his contract potentially expiring in 2025, Red Devils chiefs may feel that this summer is their best chance to garner a significant fee through a sale.

Man United are said to have slapped a £25m price tag on the head of McTominay, who is believed to be on the radar of West Ham United and Newcastle United ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.

The midfielder has been on the books at Man United for 21 years since joining their youth setup in 2002, and he now boasts 18 goals and five assists from 204 matches for the Red Devils in all tournaments.

McTominay won his first trophy with the Red Devils in this season's EFL Cup, while he has posted two goals and one assist from 34 matches across the current campaign.

The 39-cap Scotland international completed the full 90 minutes in Wednesday's win over Brentford, and he could now make his third successive Premier League start in Saturday's tie with Everton.

Casemiro must serve the fourth and final game of his domestic suspension this weekend, but Ten Hag has revealed that Eriksen has made a full recovery from the ankle problem that has kept him sidelined since January.

The Red Devils lie fourth in the table ahead of the visit of the Toffees, below Newcastle United on goal difference and three points better off than fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have played a game more. body check tags ::
