Amad Diallo may reportedly be handed an opportunity to impress at Manchester United next season.
When United pushed through a deal for Diallo at the beginning of 2021, there were high expectations that the £19m signing would command an immediate place in the senior squad.
However, despite being handed three starts and five substitute outings in all competitions, that is not what has transpired with the winger instead spending loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland.
The spell in Glasgow was mixed, Diallo chipping in with three goals from six starts and seven substitute outings, but it is at Sunderland where the Ivory Coast international has really started to flourish.
Diallo, who will turn 21 years of age in July, has contributed 12 goals and three assists from 36 appearances for the Championship outfit.
His performances and status as Sunderland's key man has not gone unnoticed back at his parent club, and it appears that it may lead to another chance at Old Trafford.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Erik ten Hag could give Diallo an opportunity to stake his claim for a spot in his squad for 2023-24.
The report suggests that there are plans for Diallo to participate in United's pre-season schedule at a time when the futures of other like-minded players are in doubt.
Anthony Elanga and Facundo Pellistri have both been tipped to spend the next campaign away from United, the latter only on a loan deal with a Premier League club said to be United's preference.
Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over the future of Jadon Sancho who, while he has contributed in fits and starts, has come nowhere near to justifying his £72m price tag.
A transfer away from United is not out of the question for Sancho, providing that any proposal suits United and does not leave them short of numbers on the flanks.
With regards to Diallo, he has just over two years remaining on his contract, and he is at a stage of his deal where United will want to determine whether he has a long-term future at the club.
That said, United do possess the option of extending Diallo's contract until 2026 should they be left convinced by the progress of the former Atalanta BC youngster. body check tags ::
