Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has reportedly remained as a potential transfer target for West Ham United.
Having dropped down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag, Maguire was heavily linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford during the summer.
Before the England international ultimately stayed put, there was speculation regarding a switch to West Ham, who were keen to strengthen their options in central defence.
Soon after a potential deal was suggested, it was allegedly off the table, and that was confirmed by the 30-year-old when speaking to reporters earlier this week.
However, Maguire also acknowledged that he would not be prepared to play a bit-part role at Man United in the long term, hinting that he was eager to earn more opportunities.
So far during 2023-24, Maguire has made just two starts and two substitute outings in all competitions, Man United defeating Crystal Palace and Brentford on the starts in question.
As it stands, though, the former club captain is only in the team due to injuries, and it seems like his former suitors may be prepared to reopen negotiations in the future.
According to 90min, West Ham may be ready to make a formal bid for Maguire if they part ways with Kurt Zouma.
The report suggests that clubs in the Saudi Pro League are contemplating whether to make an approach for the Frenchman, who has established himself as a key man at the London Stadium.
Since making the switch across the capital from Chelsea in 2021, the 28-year-old has made 70 starts and two substitute outings, scoring four goals and winning a Europa Conference League crown.
Nevertheless, Zouma only has a contract with the Hammers until 2025 and that scenario will seemingly lead to a proposal being presented to West Ham either in January or the summer.
In the case of Maguire, who would cost in excess of £30m, he is effectively tied to Man United until 2026 courtesy of the club possessing a 12-month option to extend his contract.
Maguire is expected to start for England when they face Italy in a crucial Euro 2024 qualifier on Tuesday, although he may begin among the replacements for the preceding friendly against Australia on Friday.
