The agent of Florian Wirtz has played down suggestions that the Bayer Leverkusen attacker could be on the move during this summer's transfer window amid reports of interest from Liverpool and Manchester United.

The 20-year-old has been in impressive form for Leverkusen during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring eight goals and registering 17 assists in 31 appearances in all competitions.

Wirtz has five goals and 10 assists in 23 Bundesliga appearances, two goals and four assists in four Europa League outings, and one goal and three assists in four German Cup matches, with Leverkusen chasing a treble this season under in-demand head coach Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool are said to be determined to appoint Alonso as their next manager, with Jurgen Klopp preparing to leave this summer, and there have been claims that Wirtz could follow the Spaniard to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Man United are believed to be huge admirers of the attacker, who has 31 goals and 47 assists in 134 appearances for Leverkusen in all competitions since debuting in 2020.

However, Wirtz's representative and his father has said that the Germany international is likely to remain with his current club until the end of his contract in 2027.

"Florian has a contract in Leverkusen until 2027," Hans-Joachim Wirtz told Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger. "That is roughly how long he will stay at Leverkusen.

"There's no answer what will happen when. We should wait for the next two years and then we'll see what happens.

"Florian is very lucky to have Xabi Alonso, who brings a lot of qualities. He has a great relationship with the whole team. It's the right coach at the right time."

Wirtz has provided assists in three of his last four Bundesliga appearances, with Leverkusen currently top of the table, eight points clear of second-placed Bayern Munich.

Alonso's side are currently on a five-game winning run in all competitions, including a 3-0 home success over Bayern in the Bundesliga on February 10.

The Black and Reds will continue their league campaign away to FC Koln on Sunday afternoon before heading to Qarabag next week for the first leg of their last-16 Europa League contest.

Alonso's future remains the subject of much speculation, with Bayern also believed to be determined to appoint him as their new manager this summer, as Thomas Tuchel prepares to stand down.

The 42-year-old is unlikely to engage in any talks until the end of the season, though, as he focuses on what could be a historic campaign for Leverkusen. body check tags ::
