England international midfielder Tom Cleverley has hailed his Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney as "a fantastic player and a good leader".
The 26-year-old forward was given the captain's armband for the Three Lions' 5-0 victory over San Marino in a 2014 World Cup qualifier at Wembley on Friday.
"Wayne has all the attributes to be a good captain," he told Sky Sports News. "He is a winner. You could tell that before the game because he was quite vocal in the dressing room.
"I am not the manager but I would certainly be happy playing under a captain like Wayne Rooney. He is a fantastic player and a good leader."
England's next game in Group H is against Poland in Warsaw on Tuesday.
