Marseille coach Elie Baup has revealed his pride that the club managed its 1000th Ligue 1 victory with their 2-0 win over Montpellier on Friday night.
Baup also said that the win was important in Marseille's season with the fourth-placed club still seven points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
"This was an important three points, but it is also an important moment in the history of the club," he told ESPN. "It was a moment to celebrate as tonight was the 1000th Ligue 1 victory for Marseille.
"It speaks volumes about this club and its ability to find in its glorious past the strength to build a bright future.
"It was important to get the three points tonight; our third victory in a row. We are in a position where we need to fight and I was delighted that the players did just that."
Marseille travel to Lille in their next league game.
