Melbourne Victory have moved to the top of the A-League table courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Wellington Phoenix at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
Melbourne took the lead midway through the first half when Guilherme Finkler's free kick evaded a number of players in the penalty area before beating Glen Moss in the Wellington goal.
Wellington almost responded three minutes later after Nathan Burns broke into space out wide, but his low cross flashed across the face of goal without a teammate reacting to it.
Wellington improved after the break and almost equalised through Louis Fenton, but the defender headed wide from a free kick.
Melbourne added a second goal after 66 minutes through Connor Pain, who collected Archie Thompson's lobbed pass before sliding the ball under the onrushing Moss.
Melbourne top the standings with 10 points, while Wellington remain four points behind in fifth.
