Middlesbrough have confirmed that assistant head coach Craig Hignett has parted company with the club.
The former Boro midfielder had been Aitor Karanka's number two since moving back to the Riverside Stadium from Hartlepool United in March.
The 44-year-old was assistant to Colin Cooper at Pools before taking up the same role at Boro.
"Following discussions between Craig, head coach Aitor Karanka, and the club, all parties have agreed for Craig to leave his position with immediate effect," a statement on Middlesbrough's official website read.
"The club would like to place on record its thanks for Craig's efforts since joining us from Hartlepool last season and wish him all the best for the future."
Hignett scored 48 goals in 194 appearances for Boro between 1992 and 1998.
