Middlesbrough have completed their pre-season preparations with a 1-0 win at home to Getafe.
The hosts started brightly as Albert Adomah fired well wide, before George Friend forced the keeper into a low save.
Both sides were largely restricted to long-range shots for much of the half, as Stewart Downing volleyed over the bar before Getafe's Pedro Leon shot wide after a mazy run to the edge of the box.
After the break, Middlesbrough broke the deadlock as Downing picked out Kike with a defence-splitting pass, and he calmly found the bottom corner.
Downing went close to a second with a curled shot, which was tipped over the bar, before Alvaro Vazquez shot just wide from 25 yards for the visitors.
Middlesbrough play Preston North End next week.
