Sheffield Wednesday overcome Championship strugglers Millwall with a 3-1 victory at The Den, thanks to goals from Lewis McGugan, Atdhe Nuhiu and Stevie May.

Goals from Lewis McGugan, Atdhe Nuhiu and Stevie May gave Sheffield Wednesday all three points as they triumphed over Championship strugglers Millwall with a 3-1 victory at The Den this evening.

Millwall's Lee Gregory was played in early on by new loan signing Gary Taylor-Fletcher, but the striker could not make the most of his chance as he struck wide to the right.

The home side had the better of the early chances and Gregory returned again to test Wednesday keeper Chris Kirkland, who did well to save down low at his bottom-left corner.

Martyn Woolford was involved just after the half-hour mark as he sought out Taylor-Fletcher, but the playmaker fired wide from the six-yard box.

Wednesday's first clear chance of the half fell just before the break, with Kamil Zayatte being picked out by Claude Dielna, only for the midfielder to see his shot blocked in front of goal.

Dielna was back in the thick of the action again just minutes later when he forced David Forde into a standout stop down low, leaving the sides to go into the interval on level terms.

Aiden O'Brien had the perfect chance to put Millwall ahead in the second half having paired with Shaun Williams, but the resulting header flew off target.

Wednesday made them pay in the 52nd minute as they took the lead, McGugan firing home with his left after being found by Jacques Maghoma.

The away side cemented all three points with just under 20 minutes to go thanks to Nuhiu, who was played in by the enterprising Maghoma to finish with his right.

Wednesday claimed a third goal seven minutes before the close of play through May, after he profited from more standout work from Maghoma to slot into the far corner.

Millwall did manage to pull a consolation back in injury time thanks to Diego Fabbrini, but it was too little too late as Wednesday strolled to three points on the road.
