MK Dons manager Karl Robinson has insisted that the red card given to Alan Smith in the 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Barnsley was a poor decision from the referee Michael Jones.
Robinson said that Smith's reputation preceded him and that Jones "couldn't wait" to send the former Manchester United man off.
"I didn't even know it was a foul," Sky Sports News quotes Robinson as saying.
"You see Alan Smith going to try and compete and right away ultimately the referee thinks 'that's Alan Smith, he has tried to do him, sending-off'.
"You could see it and, by the way, how quick did he go for his card? It looked like he couldn't wait to do it but if he sticks to his report he will know he has made a big error."
The result put Barnsley through to the quarter-finals.
