Danny Blind: 'Euro 2016 qualification is still possible'

Netherlands boss Danny Blind insists that the team can still qualify for Euro 2016.

Netherlands manager Danny Blind has insisted that the team can still qualify for Euro 2016.

The Oranje, who are currently fourth in Group A, need to beat Czech Republic in Amsterdam this evening and hope that Turkey lose to Iceland if they are to finish third and claim a playoff spot ahead of the Turks.

Blind succeeded Guus Hiddink as Netherlands boss in July after the team's poor form in qualification and picked up his first win on Saturday as the Oranje beat Kazakhstan 2-1 in Astana to keep their hopes alive.

"It is still possible. We have to look at what we still can achieve. Our results have been disappointing. However, we still have a small chance," Blind told reporters.

"In sports one can lose or one can win. That is the case for us, but also for the other side. I still believe Turkey could lose against Iceland.

"For us only one scenario is currently important. We need a win. Afterwards we will look what happened in Turkey."

Netherlands last failed to qualify for a major tournament 14 years ago when they missed out on the 2002 World Cup, while they last failed to reach the European Championship finals in 1984.
