Guus Hiddink bemused by Netherlands collapse

Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink questions his side's capacity to kill off their opposition after conceding three times in the final 20 minutes to lose 4-3 to USA.

Guus Hiddink has accused his Netherlands side of lacking a killer instinct following the dramatic 4-3 defeat to USA on Friday.

Hiddink's side looked in full control of the friendly in Amsterdam as the Oranje led 3-1 at the 70-minute mark, courtesy of a brace from Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Memphis Depay.

However, John Brooks reduced the arrears on 71 minutes for what seemed a mere consolation, but Danny Williams and Bobby Wood netted in the final two minutes to snatch an unlikely win.

"If you look at the first half, we did create some chances, but even at 0-0 they went clean through on Jasper Cillessen," the veteran coach told SBS.

"You know you have to slow the game down in the last couple of minutes. We had to make it 4-2 but instead we gave away the match.

"We need to kill a match and that's what we didn't do. Especially with these temperatures it's important to do that. I don't want to talk about individuals, but we did give away chances too easily."

Netherlands face Latvia in a crucial Euro 2016 qualifier next Friday, with Hiddink's men already six points behind Group A leaders Czech Republic and five adrift of Iceland.
