Nigel de Jong could make a "miracle" return for Netherlands in tomorrow's World Cup semi-final against Argentina, Dutch coach Louis van Gaal has revealed.
After being initially ruled out of the whole tournament because of a groin injury, De Jong today returned to training and may appear in Sao Paulo tomorrow.
"If his reaction is good and he can play, then the miracle can come true," Van Gaal said in a press conference this afternoon.
De Jong's return could be overshadowed if star striker Robin van Persie is forced to sit out. The Manchester United forward is suffering with a stomach problem and is a doubt for the Argentina clash.
