Robin van Persie, Daley Blind and Georginio Wijnaldum all found the back of the net as Netherlands beat Brazil 3-0 in the third-place playoff at the 2014 World Cup on Saturday evening.

Manchester United forward Van Persie netted an early penalty for the Dutch, before Blind made it 2-0 inside 16 minutes.

Wijnaldum added gloss to the scoreline with a stoppage-time strike to inflict more misery on the hosts in Brasilia.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed during the third-place playoff.

BRAZIL

Goal

Julio Cesar: Could not do too much with any of Netherlands' three strikes. Aside from picking the ball out of his own net on three occasions, the experienced goalkeeper did not have much to do in Brasilia. (6/10)

Defence

Maicon: Showed a willingness to break forward and force the issue, but completely disregarded his defensive duties. Was always struggling against the pace of Arjen Robben. (5/10)

David Luiz: Had another horror moment when his poor header fell straight to Blind for Netherlands' second of the match. That said, he showed character to respond as the match progressed. (4/10)

Thiago Silva: Usually-reliable defender put his team in trouble early on with a pull on Robben. Unlucky to concede a penalty, but should have been sent from the field after just two minutes. (4/10)

Maxwell: Replaced Marcelo in the XI for his first action this summer and did not let anyone down. Was a surprise inclusion in the squad at the expense of Filipe Luis. (6/10)

Midfield

Luiz Gustavo: One of Brazil's better players this summer, but struggled against a mobile Netherlands midfield. Too often caught in possession and failed to protect his back four. (5/10)

Paulinho: Appears to be a favourite of the manager, but once again offered very little. Was replaced by Hernanes just before the hour mark. (4/10)

Oscar: Comfortably his side's best player on the night, but it was too little too late. Came close with a couple of free kicks and always looked Brazil's most threatening individual. (7/10)

Attack

Ramires: Given the opportunity to impress from the start, but failed to take the chance. Negated his defensive duties and offered very little in the final third. (4/10)

Jo: Completely anonymous. Handed a spot in the XI in place of Fred, but did nothing to justify his inclusion. Was hardly seen during his 90+ minutes on the field. (3/10)

Willian: Made a bright start, but faded badly as Netherlands took control of the contest. Finished the match, but did not really make a positive contribution. (5/10)

Substitutes

Fernandinho: Replaced the disappointing Gustavo at the interval, but spent much of the second period committing fouls and diving into needless challenges. (4/10)

Hernanes: Certainly provided more balance to the Brazilian midfield in the final 30 minutes, aiding suggestions that he should have played a greater role this summer. (6/10)

Hulk: Replaced Ramires after 73 minutes but it was another a poor showing from the attacker, whose shooting, as it has been all tournament, was wild. (4/10)

NETHERLANDS

Goal

Jasper Cillessen: Was forced into making a couple of smart saves in the first period, but spent much of his evening in cruise control. (6/10)

Defence

Bruno Martins Indi: Positional sense has been criticised in recent matches, but the strong centre-back was impressive this evening. Did not give the Brazilian forward line a single sniff of goal. (7/10)

Ron Vlaar: Yet another terrific display from the Aston Villa defender, who has been one of the defensive stars of the tournament. A real leader in the back four. (7/10)

Stefan de Vrij: Man-of-the-match performance from De Vrij, whose awareness and positional sense were both terrific. Might have earned himself a move to Manchester United this summer. (8/10)

Midfield

Daley Blind: Capped what has been an impressive tournament with his side's second goal of the match. Showed brilliant technique to bring the ball down and find the top corner. Has been a real star in Brazil. (8/10)

Jordy Clasie: Replaced the injured Nigel de Jong in the XI and showed his promise with another classy performance in the middle of the park. Passing in particular was impressive. (7/10)

Georginio Wijnaldum: Deployed mainly in a defensive role this summer, but showed his attacking instincts late on with his side's third of the match. Another that has had a strong tournament. (7/10)

Jonathan de Guzman: Was a late replacement for the injured Wesley Sneijder and put on a real box-to-box midfield performance. (7/10)

Dirk Kuyt: What he lacks in quality he more than makes up for in work-rate. Simply never stopped running throughout the contest. (7/10)

Attack

Arjen Robben: Won a first-half penalty after breezing past Silva and always looked a threat in the final third despite being frustrated for much of the evening. (7/10)

Robin van Persie: Returned to form this evening with his fourth goal of the tournament. Still did not look fully fit, but his touch and use of the ball was much better. (7/10)

Substitutes

Daryl Janmaat: Once again slotted effortlessly into the right-sided wing-back role after replacing Blind in the second period. Set up Wijnaldum for Netherlands' third of the night. (6/10)

Joel Veltman: Replaced the injured Clasie in stoppage time and therefore did not have much time to make an impact on the match. (5/10)

Michel Vorm: Vorm's introduction with moments remaining meant that Netherlands used all 23 of their playing squad at this summer's tournament. (5/10)
