New York Red Bulls have missed the opportunity to go top of the MLS Eastern Conference after they suffered a 2-0 defeat at New England Revolution.
The loss means that Hans Backe's side remain third in the table, two points behind leaders Sporting Kansas City.
The hosts opened the scoring on 24 minutes when Lee Nguyen fired into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Ryan Meara.
The Revolution could have doubled their lead towards the end of the half but AJ Soares directed his header onto the crossbar from Benny Feilhaber's cross.
They eventually grabbed a second with five minutes to play as Jerry Bengtson slotted in from close range.
The win has lifted Jay Heaps's team up to sixth in the standings as they stretched their unbeaten run to five games.
