Sydney FC continued their impressive start to the A-League season with a slender 1-0 victory away at the Newcastle Jets this morning.
The away side came close from Kiki Naumoff in the early stages of the contest, with his long-range effort flying just inches past the right post.
Marc Janko appeared creative in the first half and he almost contributed to the game's opening goal as he tried to pounce on a rebound from Sebastian Ryall's effort, who saw his header crash back off the crossbar.
Jets stopper Ben Kennedy was called into action in the second period as Newcastle produced a poor back-pass that allowed Janko to steal in, but his shot was smothered by the keeper.
The away side finally went in front in the 67th minute courtesy of Janko, who saw his original shot saved before tucking in from a tight angle at the second opportunity.
In an indifferent showing from the goalscorer, Janko might have grabbed a brace with just under 10 minutes left to play following a clever ball from Terry Antonis, but the striker shot wide leaving the game to end 1-0.
