Newcastle United have been dealt a further injury blow with the news that winger Rolando Aarons is to miss the next two months with a foot injury.
The 20-year-old, who has been forced to sit out large parts of the past two seasons, sustained a fracture of his fifth metatarsal during the Magpies' EFL Cup second-round victory over Cheltenham Town on Tuesday evening.
Newcastle have now confirmed that Aarons will undergo an operation and will miss around eight weeks of action, adding to an injury list that also includes both Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Gayle and Mitrovic were also forced off the field against Cheltenham at St James' Park with head injuries, but are likely to back in action after the international break.
United are currently seventh in the Championship standings after losing two and winning two of their first four games.
