Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has insisted that his team can take many positives from their performance in the Capital One Cup against Manchester United.
A first goal of the season for Papiss Cisse was not enough to stop the Magpies losing 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Pardew believes that his players will be buoyed by their efforts against United despite going out of the competition.
He told Sky Sports News: "I thought we played terrific out there, the young lads can gain confidence from that. At times we were every bit as good as United tonight and we deserved more.
"I said before hand that a goal for Cisse would change his mood, and after that he looks really good for Saturday."
Newcastle are back in Premier League action this weekend with a trip to Reading.
