Alan Pardew hopeful on Papiss Cisse revival

Alan Pardew hopes that Papiss Cisse's goal against Leeds United can help him rediscover his best goalscoring form for Newcastle United.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has challenged Papiss Cisse to rediscover his best form following his goal against Leeds United on Wednesday.

The Senegalese striker netted the opener as the Magpies recorded a 2-0 victory over the Championship outfit to advance to the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.

Having scored 13 times in his first 14 games when joining the club, Cisse's displays have been mixed, but Pardew is hoping that his goal against Leeds will help him get back to his best.

"All strikers when they are not scoring don't feel like they have done their job," Pardew told the press. "Goalscorers want to score goals and he is always disappointed if he hasn't scored.

"He has had a few good chances in these last few games, but that was an important goal tonight - how important, we will have to wait and see. He had a couple of big chances before that and snatched at them, and it just goes to show where he was, really.

"Goals can settle a player down and hopefully it will because he has not been as powerful and as good as he had been."

Cisse joined Newcastle from Freiburg in January 2012.
