Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew believes that his side have overcome their poor start to the season following tonight's 2-0 League Cup win away at Manchester City.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has claimed that his side have managed to overcome their poor start to the season following tonight's 2-0 League Cup win away at Manchester City.

Rolando Aarons opened the scoring for the Magpies in the sixth minute, before Moussa Sissoko sealed the victory with his side's second goal midway through the second half.

Pardew told BBC Sport after the game: "There was so much going on today for us. We... had belief from the two victories we had and carried that into today's game.

"We thought our pace could unsettle them, particularly Gabriel Obertan. He was outstanding tonight. I thought he was the best player on the pitch.

"It has been difficult the first part of this season but we believe in ourselves, have come through that spell and we have a great chance on Saturday to give our fans something to shout about."

Newcastle travel to Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the League Cup, with the four ties scheduled to take place on December 16 and December 17.
