Newcastle United have reached the third round of the Carling Cup after a hard-earned extra-time victory over Scunthorpe.
The League One side went ahead after 15 minutes when striker Chris Dagnell put past Magpies keeper Tim Krul.
After a string of chances for the visitors, Ryan Taylor levelled the tie on 80 minutes with a looping free-kick.
The two sides had opportunities to win it in normal time, but were denied by repeated heroics from the keepers in either goal.
After more end-to-end football in extra-time, substitute Sammy Ameobi struck from outside the area in the 112th minute to send Alan Pardew's men through to the next round.
