John Carver: 'Mike Williamson got sent off on purpose'

Newcastle United manager John Carver claims that defender Mike Williamson got himself sent off on purpose during their 3-0 defeat at Leicester City.

Newcastle United manager John Carver has described his side's 3-0 defeat away at Leicester City as "minus 10" out of 10, while also hinting that defender Mike Williamson got himself sent off deliberately.

Goals from Leonardo Ulloa and Wes Morgan helped the Foxes into a 2-0 half-time lead, before the Argentine converted a penalty early in the second half to kill the game off as a contest.

Williamson was then sent off for a second yellow following a challenge on Jamie Vardy, before Daryl Janmaat followed him down the tunnel late on in a worrying performance from the Magpies.

Carver told reporters after the game: "On a scale of one to 10, it's a minus 10. I can't accept it. I wish the players had as much determination and fight as I had.

"We can talk about systems and players but if we're not willing to compete, get your head onto the ball and risk getting an injury, you won't get anywhere.

"The referee made the right decisions. I spoke to Mike Williamson at half-time and had a few choice words. I thought he'd done that [got sent off] on purpose - it looks like he did. The ball was off the pitch - he had no need to make the challenge. He will miss two games now, is it an easy way out?"

Newcastle sit 15th in the Premier League table following the defeat at the King Power Stadium.
