Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has urged his players to show a reaction after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
The Magpies were undone by a goal from Aaron Lennon and two converted penalties from Ross Barkley.
McClaren, who gave a debut to January signing Andros Townsend, is hopeful that his team can respond against West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
"In the first half we were never really in it," McClaren told BBC Sport. "The crowd and the players here were nervous but we did not capitalise on that. Unfortunately we then had injuries in defence which meant we had to reshuffle.
"The new signings will take time to gel. At West Brom we will have 52,000 cheering us on and we will have to show a reaction. We have shown we can react before. Fans want to see fight and we need to show it on Saturday."
Newcastle, who went down to 10 men in the 93rd minute when Jamaal Lascelles was sent off, remain in the relegation zone of the Premier League, two points off safety.
