Newcastle United are allegedly close to securing a deal for West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon.
The two clubs have been in contact over a swap deal which would see Dwight Gayle move to the West Midlands, with the latest report suggesting that talks have stalled.
However, the Daily Star says that the clubs have come to an impasse and a deal could be completed by the start of next week.
Rondon was not included in West Brom's squad for their Championship opener against Bolton on Saturday, while Gayle was left out of the squad to face Augsburg in a pre-season friendly.
Venezuelan forward Rondon would be Newcastle's sixth summer signing, with Japan's Yoshinori Muto their most recent addition.
