Tim Krul: Newcastle United "showed that we're capable"

Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul believes that his side showed that they are capable in their 2-2 draw with Chelsea, and that recent results had not been good enough.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has suggested that his side finally showed that they were capable in their 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Saturday.

The Magpies were leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Ayoze Perez and Georginio Wijnaldum, but visitors Chelsea scored two late goals to rescue a point.

Newcastle had lost their last four matches before Saturday, including a 1-0 defeat to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup, and Krul admits that the side had not been good enough in recent weeks.

"After Wednesday, I gave some quotes saying that we needed to be men and I think that's what we showed," Krul is quoted by The Mirror as saying. "That's the standard we set. We showed that we're capable.

"Some strong words were said after the cup game. We had some meetings about it. It wasn't good enough. It was far below par.

"That's the reaction we should have shown two or three weeks ago, but at least we're showing something. That's something to build on."

Newcastle will take on Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
